College Application Process

The first and crucial step is to research colleges that are the right fit for you academically, financially, and in terms of your personality. You can start by visiting the college websites to gather information about programs, campus life, and admission requirements. GaFutures is also a valuable resource for comprehensive college information.

Step 2: Submit Your Application

Once you’ve identified your dream colleges, it’s time to apply. Most colleges offer online applications through their websites or via GaFutures. However, if an online application isn’t available, you can typically find a printable version on the college’s website. Pay close attention to application deadlines and aim to submit your applications two to four weeks in advance. Some colleges may require you to apply through Common App, so be sure to check.

Step 3: Send Your Test Scores

If required by your chosen colleges, arrange for your SAT/ACT scores to be sent electronically directly from the issuing agency. You can find more information about sending SAT scores at www.collegeboard.com and ACT scores at www.act.org. Keep in mind that colleges typically do not accept test scores from high schools.

Step 4: Secure Teacher Recommendations

For colleges that require teacher recommendations, make your requests at least four weeks before the application deadlines. To ensure everything arrives together, include teacher recommendations with your transcript request packet. Each recommendation should be sealed in an envelope with the teacher’s name signed on the back flap.

Step 5: Counselor Letters of Recommendation

If you need letters of recommendation from your counselor, complete a high school resume and provide it to your counselor at least two weeks before the college’s deadline. See Ms. Thomas’ “To Do List” for QR code for recommendations. 

Step 6: Request Your High School Transcript

For Georgia colleges, you can request your high school transcript electronically through GAfutures while logged into your account at https://www.gafutures.org/. For out-of-state colleges, refer to Ms. Thomas ” To Do List” and scan the QR Code for Final Transcript (this will be open in May). If you are no longer a current student please visit the Muscogee County School District website, click on “I Want To ” and select ” Request Transcript or Diploma”. https://www.muscogee.k12.ga.us/community/school-records

Step 7: Immunization Records

Don’t forget to send a copy of your immunization records to the college you plan to attend. You can obtain a copy from your physician or visit the health department.

Don’t miss their Early Action Deadline to be considered for the President’s Scholarship Competition! For Early Action admission, the application, $50 application fee (or fee waiver), official high school transcript, and personal essay response are due by October 15. They will continue to accept ACT/SAT scores and optional materials (resume and recommendation letters) through October 25 for Early Action admission.

East Tennessee State University  

October will be Out-of-State Free Application Month

For the entire month of October, the ETSU Undergraduate Application will be FREE to residents of states other than Tennessee with code OOSFreeApp25. This code will not be active until October 1st.

A Reminder on the Application Process

The application for admission is available at etsu.edu/apply. Official transcripts are required to complete the application.

Transcripts: School officials may submit documents by email to documents@etsu.edu, or through an electronic transcript sharing services such as Parchment, or through postal mail. They cannot accept documents from students.

Test Scores: ETSU is test-optional. However, an ACT or SAT score is required for scholarship consideration and scores are used for academic advising. A test score may also be required for certain academic programs.
