I’m Shalon Gillespie, and this is my 18th year teaching. I spent eight years at Arnold Magnet Academy before joining Blackmon Road Middle School. Before teaching, I worked at TSYS in marketing and communications. I hold a bachelor’s in Business Administration from CSU (2004), a MAT in Middle Grades (2010), and have completed doctoral coursework in Curriculum and Instruction from Valdosta State.

I’ve taught 6th–8th grade math, college math, and hold endorsements in gifted, online teaching, and teacher support coaching. I currently serve as math department chair, lead teacher mentor, and student council sponsor. I also teach the Teaching With Love and Logic course to MCSD TAPP teachers who are newly entering the field of education.

I was an MCSD Outstanding First Year Teacher honorable mention (2008), Blackmon Road’s Teacher of the Year (2019), and a Top 3 District Teacher of the Year. In 2023, I attended Harvard’s Project Zero Classroom and have since shared my experience through various speaking engagements.

Teaching math is my passion. I love finding creative ways to help students succeed and grow. My purpose is rooted in those “lightbulb” moments and the lasting impact of meaningful relationships.

Outside of school, I’ve been married to my husband Matt for 20 years. We have three kids—Jadon (18), Adelyn (11), Amelia Grace (10)—and two dogs, Finnley and Stella. I enjoy reading, cycling, documentaries, and time with family and friends.
