Academic Dean

Hello, my name is Heather Perkins. I am the Academic Dean at BRMS. This is my second year at BRMS and I am excited to be here. Prior to teaching at BRMS, I taught math and science at VMMS and science at Spencer High School.

I have been married to my husband, CPL Ralph Perkins, for 17 years. Prior to teaching, I had the privilege of being a stay at home mom. My husband served in the Army and has since retired We have lived in 8 different homes in 3 different countries.  Before moving to Columbus, Georgia, we were stationed in Germany and Italy. While overseas we loved to travel and see the world. We have 4 wonderful children and 6 pets. I have 2 boys and 2 girls: Amir, Jordan, Allie, and Olivia. Our son Jordan serves in the Army, Amir currently works for Park Trucking, and both of our girls attend Northside High School. We have 3 dogs (including K9 Buddy) and 3 cats.

As a family, we enjoy spending time together, laughing, and traveling.  In my spare time, you can find me cheering on my girls at sporting events (Go PATS!!!), serving in our church (Cascade Hills), or singing in the car on a road trip.

I am so very thankful to be a part of the BRMS family and I look forward to working with the staff and students.

Guidance Counselor

Welcome to Another Amazing School Year!  My name is Tandria Thomas, and I am excited to begin my 5th year as a school counselor at Blackmon Road Middle School!
I truly believe that being a school counselor is more than just a job it is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students. I enjoy building relationships with students, encouraging them to reach their goals, advocating for their needs, and reminding them of their potential.
My Education
I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of West Georgia, where I majored in Psychology and minored in Criminology.I graduated from Columbus State University with my M.Ed. in School Counseling, and I am excited to continue using what I have learned to support students academically, socially, emotionally, and in their future college and career goals. I am currently working on my specialist degree in School Counseling.
🦅 My Counseling Philosophy
My door is always open! I believe every student deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, and supported. As a school counselor, I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment where students feel comfortable seeking help, expressing themselves, and working toward their goals.
I want every student to feel comfortable coming to me when they need someone to talk to, need support, or simply need someone in their corner. My goal for Year 5 is to continue building relationships, advocating for students, creating meaningful experiences, and helping every student know that they are seen, heard, valued, and capable of success.
Middle school can come with many challenges, but it is also an important time for students to discover who they are and who they want to become. I am honored to be a part of that journey.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family. Family time and making memories are very important to me. I love creating moments that we can look back on and cherish for years to come. I enjoy singing, Karaoke, traveling, and working with the youth at my church.
I am looking forward to another wonderful year of learning, growing, supporting, and SOARING together!
