AYPYN is one of several initiatives by the Army to help relieve the stress of Army soldiers through the continuous support of the soldiers’ families. The Army provides financial support to AYPYN sites to assist with the expenses and improvement of engaging quality afterschool activities that are aligned with the regular school curriculum. The program provides academic support for students who require extended learning opportunities to be academically successful The amount of funding support depends on how many Army-connected Youth spaces are being served at each AYPYN Site. 

Army-connected youth is any youth whose parent/guardian is one of the following: 

• Army Active Duty
• Army Reserve, Activated 
• National Guard, Activated 
• Department of War Civilians, working on post
