Hello, LJA family! My name is Mrs. Parks, and I am excited to serve as the School Counselor here at Lonnie Jackson Academy. A little bit about me, I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the College of the Holy Cross and my M.Ed. in School Counseling from Columbus State University in 2014. Before joining LJA, I served as the School Counselor at Key Elementary School for three years. I am grateful for the opportunity to become part of the LJA family and look forward to supporting our students, families, and staff.

Beyond the walls of LJA, I am a wife and proud mother of three wonderful children, one daughter and two sons. I enjoy spending time with my family, attending church, working out, and creating special memories with the people I love. I am excited for a legendary school year and helping every student reach their full potential!

What Does a School Counselor Do?

A School Counselor is a certified counselor and educator who supports the academic, social-emotional, and future success of all students. Through classroom lessons, small-group counseling, individual support, advocacy, and collaboration with families and school staff, I help students develop the skills they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

How Can I Help?

Students can visit me for support with:

  • Feeling sad, worried, stressed, or overwhelmed
  • Friendship problems and peer conflict
  • Managing anger and other big emotions
  • Building confidence, kindness, and coping skills
  • Adjusting to changes at school or home
  • Improving problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Having someone to talk to or needing a safe space
