Lindsey Bell, Engineering Teacher
I am excited to innovate and explore with our scholars as we use science, technology, engineering, math, and arts to solve problems! The focus for our classes will be Engineering through the Engineering is Elementary (EiE) curriculum. We will follow the Downtown Magnet Academy engineering process to complete group builds and team engineering challenges. The skills and information we learn from these hands-on activities will then be applied as we work through a real-world problem. My goals are for us to have fun, foster our individual growth mindsets, and enhance the 4 C’s of collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking.

Our Engineering Lab
The focus for classes in the Engineering Lab will center on Engineering is Elementary (EiE) curriculum and the implementation of hands-on science lessons aligned to each grade level’s science standards. Students will engage in the Downtown Magnet Academy Engineering Process as they work collaboratively on group builds and team engineering challenges. The skills and knowledge gained through these activities will be applied as students work to solve authentic, real-world problems.
My goals for our time in the Lab are to foster a sense of curiosity and enjoyment, support the development of individual growth mindsets, and strengthen the 4 C’s: collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking.
This year, the Engineering Lab received a significant upgrade thanks to a grant from the Extra Yard for Teachers – College Football Playoff Foundation. The CFP Foundation supports educators through resources, recognition, recruitment, and professional development. Through their generosity, Downtown Elementary Magnet Academy was gifted innovative, modern furniture designed to enhance both the look and functionality of the Lab and to further support student learning.
