MCSD TAPP Program Information
Fees / Cost
Costs are estimated and subject to change:
- $275 MCSD TAPP fee to be paid by money order the first day of Essentials of Teaching training
- $20/transcript (transcript fees vary by institution)
- $30 GACE Georgia Educator Ethics 360 (estimated cost)
- $193 GACE content tests (combined tests) or $123 per individual test (estimated cost)
- $43.25 MCSD background check (estimated cost)
Each of the GACE tests may not be required for all applicants.
- Average cost is $4500 divided monthly through payroll deduction for 18 months. Cost may vary for different certifications. This is in addition to the $275 paid the first day of Essentials of Teaching training.
- $500/semester beyond the cohort’s certification timeline established at the beginning of the program (all candidates will not require additional semesters)
- One final pedagogy assessment/portfolio and evaluation are included in the program cost
- Special Education and any GACE content not taken for admission (not applicable for all candidates)
The average cost of MCSD TAPP is $4,775 ($275 paid by money order the first day of Essentials of Teaching and $250 payroll deducted for 18 months). The cost does not include GACE assessments as these are paid directly by the candidate at the time of GACE registration. Note that program cost may vary according to the certification the candidate is seeking.

Program of Study
The following general requirements occur within the first 18 calendar months of TAPP:
- 2 weeks of Essentials of Teaching training prior to entering the classroom (this training is unpaid)
- New Teacher Orientation
- Best Practice Workshops
- 10 half-day Saturday Seminars (once per month during the first academic year)
- 30 hours of Field Experiences
- 4 to 5 TAPP Supervisor coaching cycles/formal observations
- 4 Candidate Support Team meetings
- MCSD Induction requirements
- Additional requirements as determined by TAPP personnel or the Candidate Support Team (CST)
- Additional requirements per the PSC for the certification the candidate is seeking.
- Special Education inter-related candidates must pass the GACE (081, 082) for Special Education General Curriculum prior to exiting TAPP.
Along with meeting the program of study requirements, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in 12 teacher dispositions and 24 competencies in order to exit TAPP.
The following are general on-line requirements occur within the first 18 calendar months of TAPP:
- Homework during Essentials of Teaching training
- On-line courses
- quantity and specific courses depend on the certification the candidate is working towards
- course length varies from 1 month to 9 months
- all candidates are required to complete the Children with Exceptionalities course (10 weeks) with an average of 80 or above per the PSC
- 10 journal entries
- 30 hours of Formative Instructional Practice (FIP) modules
- Final Pedagogy Assessment (occurs last semester in TAPP which may vary for candidates)
- Other as assigned by TAPP Personnel or the Candidate Support Team
On-line coursework is required during the summer.
Candidate Support Team (CST)
The Candidate Support Team (CST) is designed to provide support and supervision as well as evaluation throughout the course of the program. Members of the CST will provide guidance, and assistance with instructional design and implementation, conduct observations, and assess the professional growth of their teacher candidate.
CST Members include:
- TAPP Supervisor
- TAPP teacher candidate
- School-based administrator who conducts the teacher’s evaluation
- School-based Teacher Support Coach (TSC) or mentor
- When a TSC is infield of the candidate, the TSC also serves as the in-content mentor. If a TSC is not in the same field as the candidate, an additional in-field content mentor should be assigned.
- If a TSC is not assigned or available at the school, an in-field content mentor is assigned without a TSC.
