As far as getting into a magnet program, you will need to contact the magnet school you are interested in and apply.
2. If a spot becomes available, is Britt David an option for a student living on base?
You can apply to Britt David and be placed on their waiting list. If space becomes available, they will contact you. You do have to qualify for the magnet.
3. Can you provide a list of middle schools available in the county to students living on post to include charter and private schools?
If living on post, you may apply for a Fort Benning Transfer to any of our middle schools. You will fill out this request at Central Registration in the Muscogee County Public Education Center at 2960 Macon Road. The school must have space available. I am not able to list all of the private schools in the area.
4. For magnet schools, do you have to register in Muscogee County before you apply to the schools? Or do you apply to the school and then register?
You can apply to the school and then register. It is very crucial to register as soon as possible because if you do not, there will not be any information in our student information system. If not in the student information system, the student will not be enrolled.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Magnet Program?
The Muscogee County School District offers magnet and charter programs within schools that offer a wide variety of concentrated studies:
Parents of students interested in attending a magnet school/program should contact the desired school for information about the program and application process. Transportation is provided for students attending those schools/programs provided their residence is more than one and one-half miles from the school.
I’m living on Ft. Benning, can I go to any school in the Muscogee County School District?
Parents may complete an application for a Fort Benning Transfer (FBT) request, which is considered on a case-by-case basis. Determinations about FBT are based on space available at the requested school. Applications are available at the Muscogee County Public Education Center in the Central Registration Office, which is located at 2960 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia, 31906. The application must be completed at the time of registration and submitted to the Central Registration Office staff.
Parents or legal guardians who apply for a FBT request are notified by phone or e-mail whether approved or denied. FBT requests are automatically denied when there are no available seats at the requested school due to size restrictions. There are no appeals for FBT decisions.
Transportation is not provided. The parent or legal guardian is responsible for transportation of the student(s) to and from the school.
