MCSD has many programs, extracurricular activities, magnet programs, and charter schools. Five Year Grant Awarded – Easing Transitions and Fostering Resiliency Among Military-Connected Students (August 2016-May 2021)

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) awarded the Muscogee County School District a $1.5 million grant to help improve the social-emotional well-being for military connected students.  This grant will provide direct services that will increase the level of support for these students in ten schools.  The ten schools that will be served through this grant are Double Churches Elementary School, Eagle Ridge Academy, Mathews Elementary School, Midland Academy, North Columbus Elementary School, Aaron Cohn Middle School, Veterans Memorial Middle School, Columbus High School, Northside High School, and Shaw High School.

What is a Magnet Program?

The Muscogee County School District offers magnet and charter programs within schools that offer a wide variety of concentrated studies:


Parents of students interested in attending a magnet school/program should contact the desired school for information about the program and application process.  Transportation is provided for students attending those schools/programs provided their residence is more than one and one-half miles from the school.

I’m living on Ft. Benning, can I go to any school in the Muscogee County School District?

Ft. Benning Transfer (FBT) requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.  Determination about Ft. Benning Transfers are based on space availability at the requested school and facilitated by a lottery process.  Approvals and disapprovals will be communicated by phone or email to the requesting parent or legal guardian.

Ft. Benning Transfer requests cannot be granted for the following schools:

  • Britt David Elementary Magnet Academy 
  • Clubview Elementary School
  • Dorothy Height Elementary School
  • Rainey-McCuller’s Performing Arts School
  • Columbus High School

Transportation will not be provided by the Muscogee County School District once a Ft. Benning Transfer is approved.
