Hey everyone! My name is Tim Downes and I\u2019ve been teaching since 2015, mostly at BRMS. I\u2019ve taught Social Studies the entire time in grades 6 through 8. I was born and raised here in Columbus, GA. I graduated from Hardaway High School and have a bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degree from Columbus State University. My wife Joy, who is also a teacher, have been married since 2014. We have 3 rescue dogs, who we love and take walks with! We love to travel, hear live music, and any free time that we have with our family and friends! I\u2019m blessed to have such great people in my life! I really enjoy being a teacher, getting to help my students learn and enjoy Social Studies! I hope they all feel my classroom as an environment of care, enjoyment, optimism, and support for everyone. I have worked as a teacher at Gardner Newman Middle School, South Columbus Elementary, and Double Churches Middle School. I spent three years working in the HR department for the Muscogee County School District before I became a teacher. I obtained my Middle School Math and Science bachelor’s degree from Columbus State University, my Middle School Math and Science master’s degree from Valdosta State University, and my Teacher Leadership specialist\u00a0degree from Grand Canyon University. After receiving my gifted endorsement in 2013, I went on to sponsor a number of clubs and organizations, including the Math Team, the Science Olympiad, and the Chair of the Science Department.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I have two adult sons, two bonus\u00a0daughters, two first- and fourth-grader grandsons, and a granddaughter who is two years old. My family, rescuing dogs, traveling, and teaching are among my passions. I have one foster dog and four dogs at the moment. In 2023\u20132024, I started at Blackmon Road Middle School, and I absolutely love it.
