Patriot Passport

Reading Program & Strategies

Patriot Passport – Fort’s Lexile tracking system is designed to identify our students’ reading levels. The instructional strategies are implemented to move students forward with their Lexile scores with an ultimate goal of a 5% increase schoolwide from the previous school year.

Strategies include but are not limited to the following:

Close Reading

Thinking Maps/Advanced Organizers

Interactive Notebooks

Think Alouds/Accountable Talk

DEAR/DEAW – Drop Everything and Read/Write

Question Formulation Techniques

Through ELA classes students will be tested via Achieve 3000 every 9 weeks to monitor their Lexile performance.  Students will conference with their ELA teachers to discuss their Lexile scores, set goals, and document their performance.  Students will be required to visit the media center to check out a book within their Lexile Band once a week.  The ELA teacher will receive a weekly list detailing the books assigned to students in their class from the Media Specialist.  The ELA teacher will assess their student on the book and chart the information in their Patriot Passport.  Strategies identified above will be implemented to help students reach the goals set during their student conference.  Literacy Interactive Notebooks will be implemented school wide to insure a focus on literacy across the curricula.
