Are you good at math and like to solve problems? Join our Math Team and help us win local competitions among other schools.

Science Olympiad

Aspiring scientist are needed to learn and create things at CSU in February. Researching topics and building rockets and cars are just a sample of what you can do. Fun had by all!!

The Herschel A. Jones Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society

Keeping your grades up and being an outstanding student are just a couple of qualities for becoming an NJHS member. Induction Ceremony takes place in the Spring. The group manages many of our service projects to help the less fortunate during the holidays.

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

This is a competitive team of 10 students who read the Georgia Children’s Book Award books in order to compete against other middle schools in January. The team is chosen in October and meets in the mornings before school to get ready for competition.

Georgia Movie Academy

 Georgia Movie Academy is a digital storytelling competition sponsored by the Chattahoochee-Flint RESA.  The competition recognizes student work in the area of video production and storytelling.  This project-based learning opportunity allows students to work in teams to produce a theme-based, standards-based, three minute video on a topic of their choice.

Junior Marshals

    Junior Marshals are dedicated to being a good citizen, a leader and a role model in the community. Junior Marshals focus on Citizenship, Leadership, Education, Fun and Teamwork (ClEFT). Ten students will meet monthly on Saturdays at the Government Center to be motivated and educated on utilizing their best ability, being respectful and supporting people regardless of race, gender, or religion.

The Debate Team

The Arnold Magnet Academy Debate team is in the Columbus Urban Debate League (CUDL) and is also apart of the Atlanta Urban Debate League (AUDL). Students participate in 12 debates per year against other schools in the district, as well as against students across the state of Georgia. Students who find themselves well organized, are able to articulate an argument well  and those who have exceptional behavior are considered for the team.

Academic Bowl Team

The  Academic Bowl is an all-subject buzzer-based academic quiz competition for Middle School-aged quiz bowl teams with students 6th-8th grades. Academic Bowl is an excellent club for students who enjoy fast-paced competition and excel in all academic areas as well as sports, music and general trivia.

RTVL (Rams TV Live Broadcast Team)

Rising 8th Grade students are selected through an application process at the end of their 7th grade year. Students produce a video of daily information for students, teachers, and parents.

FIRST LEGO League Team # 36515

The First Lego League Team competes to design, build, program, and test an autonomous robot. Teams work together under the FIRST signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.

AMA Robotics Club

Students are selected based on interest, work ethic, and teamwork skills. Students compete at the district’s MCSD Robotics Competition in the spring.

Velocity

This is a local  non-profit, peer counseling organization. Requirements to join velocity: (1) Be a 7th grader or 8th grader, (2)be willing to sign  a contract to live a life of integrity to be a positive role model in your school and community, (3) complete registration form and pay velocity membership and activities, and (4) Attend one V day (huge, awesome fun).
